Express Entry
On January 1, 2015, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada released a new system to manage how people with skilled work experience apply to immigrate to Canada. It is called Express Entry.
Steps of Express Entry
STEP 1: Eligibility
In order to apply for Express Entry, you must already meet all the existing criteria for any of the following categories: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).You must take an English and/or French language test to evaluate your abilities in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in either of Canada’s two official languages. Your foreign educational credentials must be assessed by a designated organization to see if they are equivalent to Canadian degrees and diplomas.
STEP 2: Express Entry Profile
Complete the online form that requests your information, such as personal information, language ability, education and work experience. The higher points you score, the better your chance to get an “Invitation to Apply” as a permanent resident. Those who are qualified for any one of categories mentioned above are accepted into a pool of candidates.
STEP 3: Invitation to Apply
Invitations are sent to those who have the highest CRS scores after measuring certain factors including age, work experience, language ability, education and other factors. When you are invited, you then have 90 days to submit the complete application for permanent residence.
